Michelle has been working to increase collaboration and equity in the food system for more than 15 years. In her current role, Michelle is building a community and a network of resources—money, time, commitment and creativity—in support of a viable and just future for all farmers. The National Young Farmers Coalition tackles the most critical structural and economic barriers that stand in the way of young farmer success, with the goal of helping 25,000 young people enter into viable farming careers by 2022. Previously, Michelle led GrowNYC’s New Farmer Development Project for ten years, working with 20 immigrant families to establish independent farm businesses on a combined 400 acres. She has consulted for clients with projects creating positive outcomes for farmland affordability, veteran farmers, and community food access in the Hudson Valley.
